How to Process a Manual Entry Payment (MOTO)

Updated over 2 weeks ago

🚨 Important Note:

Pebl does not recommend using MOTO payments unless absolutely necessary. These transactions are considered high-risk and are more likely to be declined by banks.

If your customer is not present, we recommend sending them a payment link via SMS or email. This allows them to pay securely from their own device, and keeps your business compliant by avoiding direct handling of their card details.

Overview:

Pebl allows you to take card payments by manually entering the customer's card details — often referred to as a "MOTO" (Mail Order / Telephone Order) transaction. This is useful when your customer isn’t with you in person, but you still need to accept payment securely.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Open the Pebl app and tap the blue + button.

  2. Enter the payment amount and optional description or products.

  3. Tap Other payment options.

  4. Select the 3-dot menu at the bottom right.

  5. Select Enter card details manually.

  6. Enter the customer’s:

    • Name on card

    • Card number

    • Expiry date

    • CVV (3- or 4-digit security code)

  7. Confirm and process the payment.

  8. A receipt will be automatically emailed to the customer if an email is entered.

FAQs and Troubleshooting Tips:

Can I use this for recurring customers over the phone?
Yes, but you’ll need to enter their card details each time. Pebl does not store card data.

Will the customer receive a receipt?
Yes — as long as you enter their email during the process.

What if the payment fails?
MOTO payments are high risk and may be blocked by banks. We recommend using a payment link instead.
